ThurrockThurrock Council

South Ockendon is a Thurrock town of about 22,440 people in its built-up area (2021 census), just outside the M25 and the Greater London boundary. The old village grew up around the green, where North, South and West Roads meet beside the Grade I listed church of St Nicholas, one of only six round-tower churches in Essex.

Most homes are much newer. Prefabs for families bombed out of east London and west Essex arrived in the late 1940s, and in the late 1960s the Greater London Council replaced most of them with the Flowers' Estate, rows of eight terraced houses built from Lecaplan pre-cast concrete panels. Brandon Groves stands on the site of the old South Ockendon Hospital, and newer streets on the old Ford plant site near Ockendon station are named after famous Ford vehicles.

If you live in one of the concrete-panel houses, mention it when you get in touch, because solid concrete walls need different tools and fixings from stud or plasterboard walls.
